Nashville City Council amends 2023 budget

Monday during the Nashville City Council’s regular monthly meeting, aldermen approved several motions. One motion was to adopt a resolution to amend the 2023 budget and the other was to amend the 2023 adopted budget for the purpose of paying a $5,000 dollar stipend to one full-time law enforcement officer who was eligible per ACT 224 of 2022.

Finance Director Kimberly Green informed the council that total revenue for the month of December 2023 was $732,760.77 and expenditures were $747,889.64. Expenditures exceeded the revenue by $15,128.87. Green also reported that city sales tax increased by 1.7 percent which was $2,226 dollars more than December 2022 and county sales tax decreased 3 percent which was $2,953 dollars less than December 2022. 

Parks and Recreation Director Meghan Floyd presented an ordinance that was regarding the removal and replacement of persons appointed to the parks and recreation commission. The ordinance also stated that the commission should be composed of five citizens of Nashville and two citizens of Howard County. After further discussion, there was a motion made by aldermen Donna Harwell and seconded by Jimmy Dale to approve the ordinance as presented. There was a 9 to 1 vote with Horne recusing himself because he serves on the Park’s Commission.
