Nashville Elementary School hosted a balloon release Friday afternoon in order to raise awareness about autism. Karen Burnette, president of Arkansas Autism and Resource Outreach Center, spoke at the event and said that the month of April is National Autism Awareness Month. Burnette says early diagnosis and treatment, the outcomes for those children [that have autism] is much better. Arkansas is the 4th highest state in the country for children that have autism, which has doubled since 2002. Nashville Elementary also donated $800 to AAROC, with funds raised from different fundraising projects.
