Forestry Commission to Give Away Seedlings April 21 in Nashville

Arkansas Forestry Commission officials will be giving away free Cherrybark oak bare root seedlings at the entrance of the Nashville Wal-Mart Garden Center on Friday, April 21st, beginning at 9 a.m.  The trees will be given out as part of the Arkansas Arbor Day and Earth Day Celebrations.  National Arbor Day is April 28th, Arkansas Arbor Day was March 16th and National Earth Day is April 22nd.  The tree giveaway will be on a first-come first serve basis.  Information on the care of the seedlings will be provided.  Forester Justin Mallet says that cherrybark oak trees grow fast, provides good shade for your yard and home, and will provide an abundance of acorns for wildlife to eat.  A large tree will attain heights of 120 feet with diameters from 4 to 6 feet with heavy branches forming a wide crown in the open.
