High Wildfire Danger in Arkansas

Justin Mallett- Arkansas Forestry Commission County Forester for Howard, Polk, and Sevier Counties talks about the high wildfire risk in Arkansas the week of December 12th.  Breaking News- High Wildfire Risk continues across the state of Arkansas. As of Tuesday there are 66 counties in the state currently under burn bans. Outdoor burning is discouraged across Arkansas due to high wildfire danger across counties, and current/predicted drought conditions and low humidity.

*November of this year had the highest wildfire frequency of any Arkansas November since 1989.

Hempstead County

9 fires totaling 22 acres since October 1st and a total of 12 fires and 42 acres in 2017.

Howard County

7 fires totaling 42 acres since October 1st and a total of 9 fires and 70 acres in 2017.

Pike County

8 fires totaling 30 acres since October 1st and a total of 13 fires and 35 acres in 2017.
