Howard county’s operating budget for 2018 was approved during Monday’s regular quorum court meeting. The budget totals 1.85 million dollars for county general funds. Next year’s budget includes a 3 percent cost of living pay raise for county employees and elected officials. J.p.’s also voted to set aside 150 thousand dollars for the contingency fund…which brings that balance to approximately 500 thousand dollars.
There will be between 50 and 55 thousand dollars of unappropriated money for 2018.
Yesterday’s meeting also saw changes approved to the election process in Howard County. The court adopted an ordinance calling for voting centers to be placed at Nashville, Dierks, and Mineral Springs beginning next year. Regular polling sites will continue to be operated in Umpire & Tollette. The voting centers will allow for any registered voter in Howard county to cast their ballot at one of the three voting center locations….providing a greater ease of voting for residents.
