Nashville School Board approves new school calendar; first day of school August 15

The Nashville School District has approved a new school calendar for the 22/23 year.  A calendar had previously been adopted by the board in January, however, with changes made by state lawmakers in their recent fiscal session, districts have been allowed to modify the start time of the school year.  With the changes approved Monday evening, Superintendent Doug Graham said the first day of classes has been moved up a week.  The school year is now set to start August 15th.  This will also allow classes to end on the Friday before Memorial Day in May 2023.  Superintendent Graham says he feels student learning isn’t very productive when the year drags in to late May or June:

The calendar also includes an additional day off from classes for staff and students October 17th.  In meeting with the district’s Personnel Policies Committee, Graham said the staff indicated their need for a day off in mid-October to help break up a long stretch of the school year prior to Thanksgiving in November.
