The Mineral Springs School Board has approved resurfacing the high school track. Board members at a Monday meeting approved Beynon Sports to resurface the track at an expense of $150,906, which includes a 5 year warrant. GeoSurfaces will also rehabilitate the long jump area at a cost of $2800. The project will be complete before track season begins. Several stipend payments for the month of December were approved and boys basketball coach Roy Backus was also given a partial stipend, due to him also coaching the girls team after their coach resigned. Board members announced they would be starting a scholarship for a student that has a 2.5 GPA or higher. All applications for the scholarship will be due by March 31st. Following an executive session, the board hired several custodians that have completed a 90 day probationary period including Jeremy Conway, Fredicia Hendrix and Cathryn Skinner. The board also approved a 3 percent raise for Superintendent Thelma Forte, retroactive to July 1 as she was not included in the staff raises approved last month.
