Mineral Springs High School Principal Josh Kessler has resigned. The school board, during their monthly meeting on Monday, also accepted the resignation of Jonathon Lance, English teacher. The board also hired Mark Propps as senior high girls basketball coach, effective immediately. Superintendent Thelma Forte’s contract has also been extended for an additional year (now until January 2020).
Construction Manager Lodi Dixon reported that the school building project had been delayed for about two weeks, due to weather. The gymnasium concrete slab is expected to be poured today and progress has been made on the high school wing. Superintendent Forte also reported that the elementary school’s goal of having 85 percent of students on target has almost been achieved. A total of 75 percent of students are on grade level and teachers will be receiving additional training to help in this matter. The high school faculty is also receiving professional development in STEM education and in using technology in the classroom. Superintendent Forte said the number of students that are eligible for the academic challenge scholarship has doubled since the school year started. One teacher is also working on her national board certification.
