Miss Arkansas Alpha Awards Presented Tuesday

Tuesday night, the Miss Arkansas Alpha Awards were presented during the opening night of the 80th Annual Miss Arkansas Pageant at Robinson Center in Little Rock. Alpha Awards are presented to first-time Miss Arkansas contestants that garner the most points in their respective groups each night.

The Savvy Shields Alpha Interview Award was presented by the Miss America Homecoming Celebration Committee to Miss Central Arkansas Hannah Burrow.

Burrow is the 24-year-old daughter of Chad and Rachelle Burrow of Foreman and she attends the University of Central Arkansas. Burrow will also receive a $250 scholarship.

The Healthy Lifestyles Platform Award was presented to Miss Texarkana/Twin Rivers Kathryn Barfield.

Barfield is the 22-year-old Daughter of Robin and Glenn Barfield of Texarkana, Texas and she attends the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, College of Pharmacy. She will receive a $500 scholarship.

And, Miss Southwest Arkansas Suzie Gresham of Hope received a $1,000 Social Media Promotions Scholarship. She is the 23-year-old daughter of Ben and Jamie Gresham of Hope. She is a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University.

This year’s Miss Arkansas Pageant features 44 contestants from around the state and they are competing for over $167,000 dollars in scholarships.

Preliminary competitions will continue today and Thursday at 7 p.m. The final competition for the Outstanding Teens will be on Friday. The crowning for Miss Arkansas 2017 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
