The Murfreesboro City Council has approved an $80,000 bid to light the walking trail at the city park. Mayor Rodney Fagan says the bid has been awarded to Integrity Electric Incorporated of Texarkana. The Mayor also reported at the meeting that supplies have been ordered to place a crosswalk on East 13th Street at the city square. Council members and representatives with the Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce also discussed the possibility of a tourism tax. The plan would be to collect two percent on hotels and RV parks to help raise funds to reopen the historic service station on the square as a tourist information center. This would also provide public restrooms for visitors to the area. In other business, Robert Evans was reappointed to the water commission. Mayor Fagan is also researching funding for sidewalks for North Washington Street.
