Nashville Fire Department Rotary Program

Nashville Fire Marshal Jerry Harwell talked to the Nashville Rotary club on Wednesday. Harwell joined the department in 1990 and became administrative fire chief in 2004. The fire department was established in 1924. Harwell says in the past that the department would average about 100 calls per year. Possibly due to code enforcement, that number has greatly decreased. This year has only recorded 14 fire calls. Firefighters at Nashville are part time city employees and receive a paycheck for attending fires and drills. The department has 24 members. A new brush truck has improved the fleet.
