New State Laws go into effect

About 40 new state laws and amendments went into effect on Monday. Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson made the military retirement income tax a priority during the last legislative session. The tax relief will assist the state’s 22,000 veterans or their surviving families.

Area school districts may have to provide seat belts for school buses in the future. The law requires buses bought new or leased after January 1st to have seat belts if ten percent of registered voters in a school district sign a petition.

Howard Memorial Hospital has been looking into more telemedicine options and training, which is also a new law. Act 203 gives the state a new definition of telemedicine. It includes requirements for establishing a professional relationship and for when a health care worker can providee those services in a school setting to a minor who is a Medicaid recipient.
