New State Laws Go into Effect

Several new state laws go into effect today, passed by the Arkansas General Assembly earlier this year. A first offense for texting while driving will go from a warning to a fine of up to $250. The law also clarifies that using Facebook or other social media counts as texting. It is also illegal now to have an open container of alcohol in a car where the driver or passenger can access it. Act 1071 makes it legal for employees with concealed carry licenses to keep their guns in their vehicles while at work, where prohibited.

The ACLU is currently challenging these three controversial abortion laws and a decision is expected before they go into effect.

Arkansas joined 10 other states by allowing and legalizing daily fantasy sports.
