A retirement reception for Pike County 4-H Program Assistant Avonne Petty took place on Friday at the Murfreesboro Municipal Building. Petty says she has been with the extension service for 32 years. Petty grew up in Arkadelphia and helped her parents with their cafe. She later moved south of Delight, had children and helped her husband with farmwork…raising soybeans, milo, corn and cattle. Petty says she has had 28 state record book winners in her term, all receiving scholarships. She encourages youth to join 4-H, which stresses community service and leadership. Petty is an active EHC member and plans to also do volunteer work at Historic Washington State Park in her retirement. Her last day at work is January 2nd.
