The Nashville Rotary club welcomed District Governor Jennifer VanHoutte of Russellville at Wednesday’s meeting. VanHoutte talked about the organization’s continued effort to eradicate polio, which has decreased to just a few cases in two countries. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have previously supported this effort and just recently announced another $450 million commitment in addition to $1.2 billion raised by world leaders and other donators. Rotary, including matching funds from the Gates Foundation, has donated more than $1.6 billion to polio eradication. The global eradication of polio has been Rotary’s top priority since 1985. Some of those funds have been raised right here in our local area. Pictured are past president Glenn Lance, DG VanHoutte, club president Carol Murray and president elect Larry Dunaway.
