School Bus Safety Reminder

A friendly reminder from us here at KMTB & KNAS. Today marks the 1st day of school for many for the 2021-2022 school year. With that being said, be mindful and aware today as you are on the road. Keep an eye out for children, watch your speed in school zones, and know that if you find yourself behind a school bus that when those lights come on, and the “STOP” sign extends from the bus that Arkansas law requires you to come to a complete stop on either side of that bus at least 30 feet away. This law doesn’t just apply to 2-lane residential areas but also to highways as well. It is estimated that 350,000+ students will be riding the bus daily throughout the state and it’s imperative we all do our part to ensure these kids arrive safely to both school and home. The prescribed punishment for failing to stop 30 feet behind a bus charging or discharging children is a fine of $250-$1,000 and/or up to 90 days in jail. Leave a little earlier if you know your commute coincides with a bus route so that rather than feeling frustrated by the wait you can enjoy watching those young minds climb aboard as they adventure into a new year.
