Legacy Bumps the Bears

Legacy Academy’s senior boys advanced through Round two of the Genoa Classic Tournament by defeating the Spring Hill Bears in a nail biter finish. The Warriors came on strong out the gate outscoring the Bears 17-9 in the first period. The Bears warmed up in the second period and answered by outscoring the Warriors 22-14. This sent the teams to the locker room tied 31-31 at the half. The remainder of the game was just as close with the Bears outscoring the Warriors 21-20 in the third quarter. Throughout the fourth quarter the teams exchanged the lead but with two minutes to go in the game the Bears took their largest lead of the contest by 5 points. With 36 seconds left in the game Ethan Gallagher blocked a shot, took the ball and sprinted the court to tie the game 69-69. After a missed shot in the next possession by the Bears, Gallagher secured a critical defensive rebound and passed the ball down the floor. With 10 seconds to go #11 Eli Mitchell provided the Lockesburg team their winning basket. 
Gallagher scored his season high of 49 points for the Warriors and provided 12 rebounds, while Eli Mitchell gave 14 points and 5 rebounds. #11 McGuire led Spring Hill’s scoring with 22 points. Legacy will play in the championship game on Thursday at 4:15pm. To reach the championship they defeated De Queen before beating Spring Hill. In a tournament upset Horatio came out of the consolation bracket defeating Genoa Central. Legacy and Horatio will face off in the championship. De Queen will play Genoa Central in the consolation bracket for the third place title.
