Today is the National Day of Prayer

Today, May 6th is National day of Prayer. In 1775 the Continental Congress allocated a time for prayer in the forming of our new nation. Over the years many advocated for an official day of prayer including President Lincoln himself. It wasn’t until April of 1952 that President Harry Truman signed a bill proclaiming a National Day of Prayer. This bill was amended in 1988 by President Reagan to designate the first Thursday of May as such. A committee was formed in 1972 to coordinate events participating in prayer across the nation with the intentions that regardless of faith or what God we worship, we come together to pray for our nation.
