Mineral Springs School Board votes to rehire both school principals

Board Members of the Mineral Springs School District met on Monday night for their regular monthly meeting. The meeting was conducted by Vice President William Dixon and a motion was passed by Board Members to make a conference call to President Dorothy Vaughn so she could attend the meeting by phone.

Superintendent Billy Lee made a recommendation to renew four administration contracts. Those renewals were LEA Supervisor Janine Allen for one day a week, Director of Federal Programs Wendy Reed, Elementary Principal Ruby Dean, and High School Principal JonDavid Amerson.

There was a motion made by Board Members Ray Hawkins and Seconded by Dorothy Vaughn to renew the four administration contracts.

High School Principal JonDavid Amerson stated that Coach Jason Hathcock sent three different bids for High School football uniforms. Amerson made a recommendation to the board to purchase the Riddell brand football uniforms for the High School football team that would be over $10,000 cheaper than the other two bids. If approved they would have 3 different sets of jerseys and pants.

A motion was made by Board members; Ray Hawkins and seconded by Barnado Thomas to purchase the Riddell brand uniform for $24,982.00. All were in favor of the recommendation.
Amerson mentioned that they are getting ready to start up boot camp to prep for the upcoming ACT aspire test.

The board also approved Superintendent Lee’s recommendation to allow DCS to install a speaker system in the amount of $13,375. The system will be purchased with grant funds from the state. The recommendation was made for school safety.

A motion was made by board members Ray Hawkins and seconded by Ricky Gamble to accept the grant money in the amount of $13,375 for school safety.
