4.38-Carat Diamond Found at State Park
While diamonds are on average found daily at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, it’s not everyday that a lucky out-of-town visitor comes across one like what was found on September 23rd. In fact the 4.38-Carat diamond sets the record for the largest diamond found thus far in the 2021 calendar year.
Noreen Wredberg of Granite Bay, California found the yellow diamond sitting on top of the ground within an hour of searching. Noreen and her husband are retired and enjoy spending their leisure time traveling. The Crater of Diamonds State Park was a long desired stop for her while in Arkansas after seeing the park featured on a TV show years back. Michael, Noreen’s husband, made the suggestion to start in the middle of the field and what a paying suggestion it was. Noreen says she didn’t know it was a diamond at first glance, but it was clean and shiny, so she picked it up.
Waymon Cox, Park Interpreter, says that many of the park’s largest diamonds are found right on top of the ground and that conditions were perfect for Noreen to find her diamond.
