Nashville Receives Rural Connect Broadband Grant
Nashville has become the 4th Arkansas community to receive a Rural Connect Broadband grant. The State Department of Commerce announced Thursday afternoon the city has received a $448,450 grant to partner with Premiere Holdings in providing fixed wireless internet to Nashville residents. State Senator Larry Teague says the funding is a good start on improving the internet locally:
Governor Asa Hutchinson created an internet study for Arkansas in May of last year. That report specifically mentioned Nashville as a community in need for faster internet. With yesterday’s announcement, the governor said the entire city of Nashville will have 25/3 Mbps broadband, By the end of the year.
Nashville’s grant is part of $19 million dollars that the state has received this year in federal funding for the rural connect project. Another $4.7 million is currently allotted for next year.
