Summer Safety

Summer is here and so is the heat. Outdoor activities are picking up now with kids out of school and now is a great time to brush up on some summer safety tips. American Red Cross published a news release recently and here are some takeaways.

1.) Drink, drink, drink. Make sure if you find yourself outside in the summer sun that you are keeping yourself hydrated with some good ole H20. Avoid excessive amounts of caffeine and alcohol which cause our bodies to lose water more rapidly.

2.) Wear loose fitting clothing lighter in color

3.) Water Safety – Never allow children to have access to pools unsupervised. Among preventable injuries, drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4 and the 2nd leading for ages 5-14.

4.) Grilling Safety – This one’s for all the dads out there. We all enjoy some dogs an burgers on the grill just make sure that the next time you’re manning the battlestation that you aren’t one of the 10,000 fathers who annually burn their house down while doing so. Don’t add lighter fluid to coals that have already been ignited. Don’t grill indoors. Yeah, it had to be said. Keep everyone away from the grill. Looking at you kids. And last, keep the grill out in an open area away from the house, trees, your wifes hair, or anything else flammable. Stay cool, drink water – happy summer y’all.
