Nashville School Board 7/19
The Nashville School Board met Monday evening discussing a number of events. Under old business Superintendent Doug Graham made mention that the Bond approval that passed in last month’s session was made official last Wednesday with the new rate of 1.78%. The board discussed the purchase of a technology that connects to the HVAC duct system and would help to fight the spread of disease and virus through an ionization process.
This technology helps to fight those airborne illnesses such as the common cold and the flu. This particular “iWave” brand boasts a 99.4% reduction rate of the COVID-19 virus when the unit has operated for 30 minutes. The cost of this installation will total $220,000 to the district and will be implemented across the Primary, Elementary, Junior, and Senior High. This expenditure is a qualified expense under the Esser 2 funds which have been received. Graham also spoke to the board concerning the recent uptick in COVID and the associated concerns. The school submitted its intent to the state to not do virtual learning back in May as was required and will continue with in person instruction beginning this next year. Graham also stated that by Arkansas law the school board can not require the wearing of masks. There would have to be a statewide mandate put in place before that would be observed. In closing the board approved 2 new workers within the district. Latasha Flowers as a Dyslexia Aid and Andrea Pineagar as a bus driver.
