Dierks School Board
Jody Cowart, superintendent for the Dierks school district notified the school board Thursday that he is currently working with the Mayor of Dierks and local law enforcement to change the flow of traffic entering and exiting the elementary school. Cowart said an increase in parents dropping and picking up their kids from school has created traffic flow concerns that are now causing safety issues due to the line of cars reaching back to Hwy 70. A new proposed route would direct the flow of cars down W 2nd street. No official decisions were made as approval is still needed through the city council. Principal, Gene Strode, then announced that 16 YO McKay Smith, was selected by the Arkansas Activity Association to represent his district on the Student Advisory Counsel. A total of 9 students were selected across the state. Strode said this is an amazing opportunity for Smith as the requirements to be considered are incredibly high but he was well deserving. Smith will meet with former football coach, Steve Roberts, who now represents the AAA and be considered for further opportunities to travel to next years National Student Leadership Summit in Indianapolis. After an executive session the board voted unanimously to hire a School Resource officer for the Dierks School District. Bradie Faughn will be brought in to fill that position.
