Nashville School Board rehires building principals
Following a 26-minute executive session, Monday evening, the Nashville School Board re-employed the following for the 2022-23 academic year: Tate Gordon, high school principal; Ashley Riggs, junior high principal; Rick Rebsamen, elementary principal; Nathan Evans, primary principal; Kim Slayton, curriculum coordinator, James “Bunch” Nichols, director of maintenance, transportation and athletics.
Assistant principals, teachers and classified staff will be re-employed at future board meetings.
The board accepted the resignation of ISS monitor and bus driver Willie French, junior high science teacher Brenda Galliher, and Brian “Boomer” Brown from football coaching only. Brown will continue to coach softball and will be a classroom teacher.
Dontishia King was named ISS paraprofessional.
McKensie Hood was hired as high school agri teacher.
The following transfers were approved: Julie Chesshir to primary art; Shelley McKinnon to primary media specialist; Kayla Coulter to primary classroom; and Abby Cortez from elementary to primary classroom teacher.
In other business Monday night, the board approved Graham’s recommendation to offer signing bonuses in two subject areas – secondary math grades 9-12 and computer coding.
Graham said it is difficult to find teachers to fill those positions.
The state has mandated that all students who are now eighth graders take coding before they graduate, Graham said. Currently, high school teacher David Schwope is the only faculty member certified in coding.
Graham recommended a $2,500 signing bonus for a secondary math or coding teacher who makes a commitment to stay at least one year. If the teacher commits to two years, the bonus will be $5,000.
Board members approved the recommendation 5-0.
