MS School Board elects Vaughn to be board president
Monday night, The Mineral Springs School Board welcomed two new board members and re-organized with a new board president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.
Dorothy Vaughn was elected board president. William Dixon was elected vice-president. Shelia Jackson was elected secretary. And Mike Erwin was elected treasurer.
Board members also drew for their terms of office. Vaughn drew a 1-year term. New board member Ricky Gamble drew a 2-year term. Erwin drew a 3-year term. New board member Banardo Thomas and Ray Hawkins drew 4-year terms and Dixon and Jackson drew 5-year terms.
Board members accepted the resignation of Kathryn Hughes and hired Jonathon Horn as a math teacher, assistant football coach and assistant girls’ basketball coach and Brandi Wilson to be an elementary teacher.
Board also voted to hire former Mineral Springs graduate Myra Brand to be the district’s bookkeeper. Superintendent Billy Lee said they interviewed seven applicants and everyone agreed Brand was the right fit.
The board then adjourned and reconvened 25 minutes later for a special called meeting to pass the minutes from the June regular meeting.
Lee explained that since the board elected a new board treasurer and hired a new bookkeeper. The board needed to pass a resolution to change the names on the district’s bank accounts. He said this would ensure the teachers receive their July checks on the 15th.
