MS Fire Department purchases new truck
During the July meeting of the Mineral Springs City Council, Fire Chief Chris Hostetler reported the fire department purchased a new fire truck from the Cabot Fire Department for $31,500. He stated the department used their Act 833 funds. Hostetler said the department will equip the truck with equipment from the old, retired truck and future Act 833 funds.
Hostetler reported the fire department held two drills and responded to six calls, including a chicken house fire in Ben Lomond.
Mayor Vera Marks provided an update on the city’s Water/Wastewater grant. She reported that as of Monday morning the grant was still pending.
Water superintendent Eric Marks informed the council that the electrician is trying to find additional parts to repair the North well.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Council member Vanessa Hendrix stated she had a few questions from a concerned citizen. The first question was when does the city plan to repair the damaged fence that surrounds the water tower. The second question concerned the manhole rehabilitation project. The final question concerned two checks that according to the ‘citizen’ the bank ledger did not have a notation in the memo section. Mayor Marks reported one check was for her to attend the Black Mayors Association meeting and the second check was for city Treasurer/Recorder Denise Juniel to attend a treasurer/recorder convention. Juniel also explained that the memo section was cut off the original copy of the ledger, but she reprinted it for the citizen prior to the council meeting Monday night.
