Dierks City Council agrees to construction of stage area in Dierks City Park

With a successful Pine Tree Festival completed over the weekend, the Dierks Chamber of Commerce is now looking to make things even better for next year.  Chamber representative Diane Dove says the organization would like to see a stage area constructed again at the city park.  During Monday’s Dierks City Council meeting, city officials voiced no opposition to the plan, with the only question being where it would be built.  Mayor Ronnie Cogburn and council members indicated their support for the project.

Cogburn said the fencing project at the city park is underway, as of Monday.

During council business, aldermen approved a  pay increase for a water department employee who has attained an additional certificate.  The increase will amount to three percent for the extra certification.

Council members also increased the pay for cleaning services.  The increase from $75 to $100 dollars per pay period is for city owned property, including the community building.

A bid of $111,488 dollars was accepted on new aerators at the sewer pond.  The units will be paid with money the city already has on hand.

Longtime council member Roddy Smith announced last night would likely be his last meeting as a council member.  Smith, who has been on the council for more than 20 years, expects to relocate from the city later this month.
