Murfreesboro resident arrested in Nashville and charged with drug possession

On November 6th, Nashville Patrol Officer Dustin Wakefield responded to a call about a suspicious person at Wal-Mart.

The employee that called said the suspect had been in the parking lot for approximately 3 hours in a black Chevrolet pickup. The employee also stated that when the suspect was inside the store, he appeared to be following a female juvenile. 

Officer Wakefield and Nashville K9 Officer Greg Parker arrived on the scene and Parker ran the license plate displayed on the truck and it returned to a Ford. 

Wakefield made contact with the suspect and checked the suspects drivers license with the on-duty dispatcher and was advised that he had a warrant from Murfreesboro, a suspended license and is on parole with an active search waiver on file. 

The suspect was identified as 44 year old Christopher R Newton of Murfreesboro.

Parker then used his K9 Apollo to conduct an open-air sniff of the truck and Apollo indicated the presence of illegal narcotics coming from the truck.

During the search of the truck, Officer Wakefield located a Marlboro cigarette package containing a small plastic bag which held a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Newton was taken into custody and transported to the Howard County Detention Facility. The suspected methamphetamine was packaged in a sealed condition and submitted to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for chemical analysis.

Newton was charged with Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance Methamphetamine.
