Single vehicle accident in Pike County
Nevada County Judge Mike Otwell was involved in a single vehicle accident that totaled a county-owned truck.
According to the accident report, the accident occurred about 4:30 pm on Saturday, May 6 on Highway 26 East at the Saline Creek Bridge in Pike County. The accident was worked by Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy Obie Laurent.
Deputy Laurent’s report says he discovered a 2022 Dodge Ram pickup in the West bound lane. The report describes damage to the east side guard rail of the bridge.
Otwell informed the deputy that he was driving west on Highway 26 when a large feral hog entered the highway in front of his vehicle. Otwell stated he swerved to avoid hitting the hog and hit the bridge, which disabled the truck. The truck was towed back to Nevada County by M&M Wrecker Service.
According to the report, road conditions were dry at the time and no drug or alcohol tests were administered.
