Ashdown man charged with rape following investigation
An Ashdown man has been charged with rape following an investigation into a claim that he sexually assaulted a minor.
According to records filed in the Little River County Circuit Court on Wednesday, 21-year-old Stephen Cheyne is facing a single count of rape after an investigation by the Little River County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest affidavit states investigators took a statement from a woman alleging that her four-year-old daughter had possibly been sexually assaulted by her ex-stepfather, identified as Cheyne.
The investigation was furthered by the Texarkana Childrens Advocacy Center.
Cheyne has since been arrested and is awaiting his next court appearance.
Upon a conviction, the charge of rape involving a minor carries a minimum of 25 years in prison.
