Mineral Springs School Board approves new board policies

Members of the Mineral Springs School Board held their regular monthly meeting Thursday night. 

During the meeting, there was a 3 to 2 vote for the approval of the Board Policies. In this policy it states that Board Members shall not be present on school property unless they are attending a school board meeting or a meeting of a district committee that a board member is a member of, signing district documents that require the board member’s signature, meeting with the superintendent in the superintendent’s office, on campus for a valid reason related to the board member’s student including but not limited to; attending a parent teacher conference for concerning the board members student, meeting with the principal of the board member student’s school regarding the board member’s student, attending a school wide scheduled event or public event such as athletic events, performing arts productions, and graduation ceremonies along with participating in announced and scheduled campus tours organized by the superintendent. 

Also, during the meeting, Superintendent Billy Lee reported to the board that there was one finding in the audit that was dealing with ESSR funds being spent on a flooring project that cost $38,000. Lee said in spite of this one finding, overall, the 2022 audit was good. There was a motion made by board members William Dixon and seconded by Barnado Thomas to approve the 2022 audit. Lee also reported that there were some issues with the turf that needed to be repaired. Lee said that he found someone to fix those repairs and it would cost an additional expense of $173,719.32. There was a motion made by board members Ricky Gamble and seconded by William Dixon to pay for the additional expenses for the turf.  The board also approved a couple of bids presented by Superintendent Lee. One bid was in the amount of $16,764.28 from Glenwood Flooring Company, for the flooring project at the Mineral Springs Elementary School and the other bid from Varsity Sports that’s in the amount of $64,850 that will go towards the score boards.
