Nashville City Council prepares for new law that will go into effect next month

Aldermen of the Nashville City Council held their regular monthly meeting yesterday. 

During the meeting, Leslie Winton, who is the audit partner of Wilf and Henderson CPA Firm in Texarkana talked to the council about the audit details of the water and sewer department. According to Wilf and Henderson’s opinion on the financial statements, Winton stated that the financial statements are materially correct which is considered as an unmodified opinion, meaning that the city of Nashville passed the water sewer audit.

Mayor Larry Dunaway then gave Brock Yates an opportunity to speak during the meeting. Yates had purchased the property located at 617 N 4th Street here in Nashville in June 2022. Yates recently had a meeting with the planning and zoning commission of the city of Nashville on July 18th to discuss this property that he purchased, and explained to them that his plan was to fix up the property and rent it out but due him having issues with contractors, Yates put the property back on the market. According to Code Enforcement Officer David Riggs, this property was grandfathered in back in 1975 and was zoned as an R-1, Single-Family residential. 

After further review, Aldermen of the Nashville City Council tabled the discussion. Aldermen asked Yates to have an agreement showing that his buyers are willing to remodel the property after purchasing it and present it at the next city council meeting.

Aldermen also approved a motion to pass ordinance 984 which states that the maintenance or use of a speaker or other instrument which transmits or projects music, advertising, speaking, sound in such a manner or at such a volume as to annoy or disturb the quiet, comfort, or repose of a persons in any office, hospital, dwelling, hotel, or any persons in the vicinity between the hours of 10pm to 6am will be fined.  Fines for this type of disturbance can range from $100 to $500. 

Aldermen also approved another motion to pass another ordinance which adopts certain rules and regulations concerning external noise attenuation of data centers and to prevent noise disturbance in the city of Nashville. Mayor Dunaway stated that a new law will go into effect August 1st concerning crypto mining companies coming in and setting up shop in Arkansas. Dunaway stated he at least wanted this ordinance to be approved by the council before the new law goes into effect.
