Howard County Extension 4H Agent speaks at Nashville Rotary Club
Howard County Extension 4H agent Samantha Horn was the guest speaker at this week’s Nashville Rotary Club meeting and she brought two 4H members with her, Asher and Arlee Howard.
Horn started by explaining the Howard County 4H members have been showing livestock for the past 3-months at various fairs and livestock shows.
Horn said when she became the 4H agent in Howard County 5-years ago, there were about 50 animals being shown at the county fair. However, this year, there were 160 animals and 94 exhibitors.
Horn reported Arlee won the Grand Championship at the Arkansas State Fair with her Nubian Dairy Goat.
Asher explained what all they had to do everyday to prepare their livestock for a show.
Asher also discussed some of the difficulties of raising long-hair cattle in South Arkansas.
The Howard County 4H will be hosting a Block Party on Saturday, October 28 from 10 am to 1 pm at the Occasions building on South 4th Street. Young people will have an opportunity to participate in several 4H activities and be encouraged to join the Howard County 4H.
