Fugitive Arrested in Murfreesboro Now Facing New Assault and False Imprisonment Charges

A man previously arrested in Murfreesboro after fleeing prosecution in another state is now facing multiple new charges in Pike County following an alleged assault on June 25.
According to an affidavit, Officer Brandon Copeland with the Murfreesboro Police Department responded to a report of a physical altercation that had occurred at a residence on West Dixon Street. The victim, who was visibly distressed, showed signs of physical injury, including red marks on her neck consistent with being choked.
The victim reported that upon entering the residence, a man—later identified as 33 year old Neftali Lugo—shoved her to the floor, placed his hands around her neck, and choked her until she began to lose consciousness. She said Lugo threatened her, stating, “I cannot go back to prison—I will take care of you,” and blocked her from leaving. She was eventually able to escape and seek help at Murfreesboro City Hall.
When officers attempted to locate Lugo at the residence, he was not found. Shortly after, reports came in of a shirtless man running through nearby backyards. Lugo was located hiding in a shed but fled on foot. He was taken into custody after a short chase.
Lugo is now charged with aggravated assault, first-degree false imprisonment, third-degree battery, and fleeing on foot.
Authorities say Lugo is a known fugitive from Connecticut, where he was facing a first-degree charge and had posted a $100,000 bond before fleeing across state lines. He was arrested by Murfreesboro police on May 30, 2025. Lugo also has a prior history of violence, including two counts of assault causing bodily harm.
