JPs of Pike County Quorum Court adopts the 2024 operating budget

Tuesday at the Pike County Quorum Court’s regular monthly meeting Justice of the peace John Plyler spoke on behalf of the budget committee and made several recommendations such as a 5% raise for full time and elected officials, 50 cents for part-time employees, purchase two new patrol units, a new truck for the OEM Director, Rebuilding an old grader, purchasing a new trash truck, a new trailer, transferring $500,000 to the industrial development fund, $20,000 into the 911 fund, and $20,000 dollars into the voting equipment fund. 

Plyler also stated that the library and public defender had to be subsidized from the county general to meet their budget requests. After further discussion, JPs approved a motion to adopt an ordinance to adopt the 2024 operating budget. Plyler also spoke on behalf of the personnel handbook committee. He stated that there was a technology resources policy and a time clock system policy added along with other minor changes to the language of the Holiday pay, mandatory pre-employment drug testing, and an increase to the dinner reimbursement amount. An ordinance was then presented to JPs to amend the personnel handbook originally passed in November 2022. After the 3rd and final reading, a final motion was made and approved by JPs to adopt the ordinance.

Justices of the Peace also approved additional motions such as adopting an ordinance that was in regard to levy taxes for the 2023 year to be collected in 2024, to give a $5,000 dollar donation to the Glenwood Train Depot, and a motion to approve a resolution to increase the Assessor’s credit limit.
