Mena Woman Arrested for DWI After Erratic Driving in De Queen

A Mena woman was arrested over the weekend in De Queen on charges of driving while intoxicated after deputies observed her driving erratically and stopping in the middle of the road.

According to an arrest affidavit from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was patrolling Highway 71 just north of De Queen around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, when he spotted a Kia Optima traveling with its hazard lights on and moving significantly below the posted speed limit.

The vehicle reportedly came to a complete stop in the middle of the road before making a U-turn and pulling onto JB Logan Circle. The deputy then activated his emergency lights and made contact with the driver, identified as 24-year-old Stormy Rayn Bodwell of Mena.

Bodwell reportedly told the deputy she was lost while trying to get home from a friend’s birthday party. The deputy attempted to assist with directions but noted that her explanation of her destination was confusing and inconsistent. After attempting to locate the destination using GPS without success, the deputy returned to Bodwell’s vehicle.

At that time, he reported smelling alcohol, and according to the affidavit, Bodwell became emotional and spontaneously admitted to drinking and using marijuana earlier that evening.

Following a field sobriety test, Bodwell was placed under arrest and charged with driving while intoxicated. She was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

She was transported to the Sevier County Jail. No injuries or accidents were reported in connection with the incident.
