Johnny Wilson Honored for Over 50 Years as the Voice of the Scrappers

A local legend was recently recognized for his decades of dedication to high school athletics. Johnny Wilson, affectionately known as the “Voice of the Scrappers,” has received a Citation from the Arkansas Activities Association for over 50 years of outstanding service to sports in Nashville and across the state.
Wilson began announcing Nashville Scrapper football games in 1970, a role first given to him by the late Joe Goodrum. Now preparing to kick off his 55th season, his familiar voice has become a staple of Friday night lights at Scrapper Stadium-echoing across the Hill for generations of fans, players, and coaches.

While Wilson is the voice fans hear each game night, he’s never been alone. Eddie Cobb, another faithful figure in the press box, has been by his side since that very first season in 1970. Together, the duo has delivered a consistent and beloved game-day experience for more than half a century.
The Nashville Scrapper Football program expressed deep gratitude on social media, calling both men “a dedicated crew” whose service and presence have become part of Scrapper football tradition.

Stay tuned Monday to hear our interview with Johnny Wilson.
