Nashville Parks & Recreation Discusses Turf Project, Upcoming Events, and Staffing

The Nashville Parks and Recreation Commission met Tuesday evening, with Director Meghan Floyd providing updates on current projects, community events, and staffing changes within the department.
Floyd reported that the department is still awaiting word on an 80/20 grant application submitted for a turf field project.
Plans are also in motion to add a splash pad to the parks system. Floyd has reached out to three companies—Waterplay, Aquatile, and MySplashPad—to request quotes and site visits. Waterplay and Aquatile are scheduled to visit in November, while MySplashPad has yet to respond.
Several community events were confirmed during the meeting:
- The annual Golden Gathering, set for October 9, will feature a 1950s theme
- Halloween in the Park will take place on October 30 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM
- The Flag Football Jamboree is scheduled for September 27, with games beginning the following Monday
Floyd also noted that the 2025 soccer season concluded and the championship game was held on September 15. A full report on the season will be presented at next month’s meeting.
In addition, staff will once again attend the Arkansas Parks and Recreation Convention, which will be held this year in Fort Smith.
On the personnel side, the department is conducting interviews for a full-time maintenance position as longtime employee Peggy is set to retire on Friday. Floyd said the goal is to have a replacement hired within the week.
