Pike County Quorum Court Approves VOCA Funding, Tractor Purchase, and Discusses Satellite Office

The Pike County Quorum Court met Monday night at the courthouse for its regular monthly session, led by County Judge Eddie Howard with all nine justices present.
Assessor Staci Stewart proposed a satellite office in Glenwood, to be housed in the new City Hall for $100/month rent. The part-time office would operate two days a week and serve both the Assessor and Tax Collector’s offices without requiring new funding. The plan will be formally presented during the 2026 budget cycle.
Prosecutor Jana Bradford requested funding after learning her district will lose VOCA grant support by September 30. The quorum court approved Pike County’s portion of $6,871.23 to help fund salaries for the Victim Witness Coordinator and Investigator. The motion passed unanimously.
Judge Howard gave updates on equipment issues, noting that the county’s Batwing Bush Hog tractor is inoperable and cannot be repaired due to age. The court approved purchasing a new 2024 Massey Ferguson tractor from Glenwood Equipment for $50,267.04 using landfill funds. The vote passed 7-2, with two abstentions.
The court also passed:
- Ordinance 2025-13 amending the county budget (9-0 vote)
- Resolution 2025-3 allowing the Sheriff’s Office to use Walmart Business Credit Cards with a $5,000 limit (9-0 vote)
Judge Howard also reported on flood recovery progress, stating that Wolf Creek Bridge pilings are set and FEMA has reimbursed the county $54,163.69, with up to $400,000 more pending.
Committee appointments were also made to the budget and handbook committees, with adjustments made after the meeting to accommodate member preferences.
