Former Volunteer Coach Faces Additional Child Sex Crime Charges in Nevada and Hempstead Counties

NEVADA COUNTY / HEMPSTEAD COUNTY, Ark. – A former volunteer coach from Texarkana, Arkansas, is now facing additional charges of sexual crimes involving children, bringing the number of alleged victims to nine across four counties.
Alejandro Mendoza, 34, was charged Wednesday in both Nevada and Hempstead Counties, according to court records. Mendoza was previously charged last year in Nevada County for misconduct involving other children. In Hempstead County, prosecutors have now filed charges connected to four children, including new filings Wednesday in the Eighth Judicial District North, which covers both Nevada and Hempstead Counties.
The case against Mendoza spans multiple jurisdictions. Earlier this year, he was charged in Sevier County involving one child, and in April, authorities in Miller County served an arrest warrant tied to additional allegations.
Court records show Mendoza is accused of targeting children as young as 12, with other alleged victims under the age of 15. He faces multiple counts of engaging a child in explicit conduct for use in visual or print media, which carries a possible sentence of 10 to 40 years or life in prison if convicted.
Across the state, Mendoza is facing 15 felony charges, including rape, indecency with a child by exposure, sexual grooming of a child, and internet stalking of a child. If convicted of rape alone, Mendoza could face between 25 and 99 years or life in prison.
He is currently being held in the Nevada County jail, with bail across the four counties totaling more than $4 million.
