NHS EAST Partners with DAR on Shoe Collection Project for Veterans

The Nashville High School EAST program is partnering with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Mine Creek-Paraclifta Chapter—which serves Howard, Sevier, and Pike counties—to help raise funds for veterans’ programs.
NHS EAST advisors John Wallis and Cassie Stephenson announced that students will be collecting shoes to be donated to developing countries through the Funds2Orgs organization. Stephenson explained how the project will operate and shared the group’s goal of collecting 100 bags of shoes.
By collecting unwanted or outgrown shoes, NHS EAST and the DAR aim to reduce waste and promote sustainability. According to Funds2Orgs, discarded shoes can take 30 to 40 years to decompose in landfills. Additionally, every 100 pairs of reused shoes can save approximately 3,000 pounds of carbon emissions.
The donated shoes will be repurposed for use as footwear and clothing, supporting both people in need and the environment.
Community members can donate their unwanted or outgrown shoes at the following locations:
12 Disciples, Timeless Treasures, Nashville Family Pharmacy, First Baptist Church, Diamond Bank, El Karnolito, Wild Ivy Salon, Rehab Specialists, Cornerstone Counseling, and any campus of the Nashville School District.
