Howard County Fair Board Requests Assistance for Fairgrounds Roofing Repairs

Earlier this week, Karter Kastleberry and Karley Worley, members of the Howard County Fair Board, addressed the Howard County Quorum Court regarding ongoing roofing issues at the Exhibits building located at the Howard County Fairgrounds.

Kastleberry began by explaining why the Fair Board is seeking help from the quorum.

He went on to say that he has spoken with several roofing companies who provided preliminary estimates on how much the repairs might cost.

Worley then presented a document outlining the Fair Board’s current revenue, noting that the majority of their funds come from the state. She explained that although the fairgrounds generate limited income, the board continues to host fundraisers each year to help cover expenses.

Worley also shared that they have applied for the Weyerhaeuser grant, though it is unclear whether they will be awarded the funds. She said they submitted the application in hopes of receiving additional financial support.

Justice of the Peace Kerry Strasner suggested that the county consider contributing to the Fair Board on an annual basis and encouraged Kastleberry to return with a formal bid for the roofing work. Worley assured quorum members that she is willing to provide an itemized breakdown showing exactly how any county funds would be used.

After further discussion, County Judge Brent Pinkerton said that a service-type agreement could be drafted. Kastleberry and Worley will return with an official quote for the roof repairs, and the quorum is expected to make a final decision in December.
