South Pike County School Board Approves 2027–2028 Budget Proposal; Construction Updates Provided

The South Pike County School Board approved the Proposed Budget of Expenditures for the upcoming fiscal year, which runs from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2028, during their regular monthly meeting. The motion to approve the budget was made by Cory Ballard, seconded by Alyssa Duggan, and passed unanimously with a 7–0 vote.
During her superintendent’s report, Superintendent Tanya Wilcher expressed gratitude on behalf of district staff, thanking board members for providing Christmas bonuses, noting that they were greatly appreciated.
Wilcher also reported that the Delight City Council has signed the resolution needed to move forward with the extender antenna project in Delight.
In Murfreesboro, city officials—including the mayor and city council—raised concerns about the unplatted road located next to the district’s new athletic fields and the condition it is currently in. Wilcher assured the board that once construction is complete, the district will address and repair any damage caused during the building process.
Wilcher added that construction of the district’s new batting cages is now underway.
The board also announced a scheduling change: next month’s school board meeting will be moved to January 19, 2026.
