Investigation Underway After Fatal Shooting in Hope

An investigation is ongoing after a man was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence early Thursday morning.

According to the Hope Police Department, officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the 600 block of North Cedar Street at approximately 4:30 a.m. on January 8, 2026.

When officers arrived, they entered the home and located a male victim who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The victim’s identity has not been released as authorities continue efforts to notify next of kin.

Police say one person of interest is currently in custody. No additional information has been released regarding that individual, and investigators have not provided details about a possible motive or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
