Mineral Springs School Board Renews Superintendent Contract, Approves Track Repair Bid

The Mineral Springs School Board held their regular monthly meeting Thursday, addressing personnel matters, facility improvements, and athletic scheduling.
During the meeting, board members approved a motion to renew the contract of Superintendent JonDavid Amerson. The new contract will run from July 1, 2026, through June 1, 2028, and includes a $110,000 salary under a 240-day agreement.
Superintendent Amerson also announced that several board members have completed their required professional development training hours. Those members include William Dixon, Ricky Gamble, Ray Hawkins, Sandra Kay Munson, Bernardo Thomas, and Xavier Vaughn.
Amerson then discussed bids received for needed repairs to the school track, outlining the scope of the project and funding considerations.
Following discussion, board member Ray Hawkins made a motion to approve the track repair bid in an amount exceeding $106,000, to be paid from the district’s building fund. The motion was seconded by Xavier Vaughn and passed unanimously.
In other personnel matters, the board approved the resignation of Middle School English Teacher Carla Smith.
In other business, Athletic Director Gene Strode provided the board with an update on the basketball schedule. Strode said several changes were necessary due to recent weather conditions impacting travel and game dates. One game will take place today at 5:30pm.
