Authorities with the De Queen Police Department announced Wednesday afternoon that all three suspects connected to Monday night’s shooting are now in custody.
According to a press release, one of the victims—a 16-year-old male from De Queen—died Monday evening as a result of his injuries. The two other victims remain in stable condition.
Police identified the suspects as 18-year-old Kaytlon Huesca, 21-year-old Tristan Mendoza, and an unidentified juvenile. All three have been charged with murder, battery, and unlawful use of a firearm from a vehicle.
Investigators reported finding numerous spent shell casings at the scene of the shooting in the 200 block of Vandervoort Avenue in De Queen. Authorities say the incident is not believed to be gang-related.
On Thursday morning, the De Queen School District released a statement addressing rumors circulating in the community. Based on information from law enforcement and school safety officials, the district stated there are currently no credible threats to students, staff, or school campuses. As a result, classes and school operations will continue as normal.
However, due to community concerns, the district announced a heightened law enforcement presence on campuses as a precaution. Counselors, administrators, and security personnel will remain available to support students and staff.
