Juvenile in Custody Following Threatening Post Directed at De Queen Students

According to a joint press release from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and the De Queen Police Department, the De Queen School District became aware of a threatening social media post on Saturday, February 7. The post was made by a student and was directed toward other students.

School administrators immediately reported the matter to law enforcement. Authorities investigated the situation, and a juvenile was taken into custody. The student is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility.

Due to the seriousness of the incident, the school district is recommending the student’s expulsion in accordance with district policy and state guidelines.

District and law enforcement officials stated there is no additional threat and emphasized that the safety and well-being of students and staff remain their highest priority. Counselors, administrators, and security personnel will continue to be available on all campuses to support students and staff.

The district encouraged parents and community members with concerns to contact district administrators.

Because the incident involves juveniles, no further details are being released at this time. Law enforcement officials reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to students, staff, or the community.
