Ward 3 Council Member Announces Resignation at Nashville City Council Meeting

The Nashville City Council held their regular monthly meeting yesterday with all aldermen present except Joe Hoen and Freddie Horne.

During the meeting, Mayor Larry Dunaway announced the resignation of Ward 3 Seat 2 council member Vivian Wright, effective March 14, 2026. Wright, who has served on the council for approximately 27 years, expressed appreciation in her resignation letter for the opportunity to serve the community for nearly three decades.

Wright recommended Khalid Benson to fill her seat for the remainder of her term. Dunaway said he plans to consult with the municipal league to determine whether Benson is eligible to be appointed, as he is currently on the upcoming election ballot, and will report back to the council once he receives clarification.

Finance Director Kimberly Green presented the January 2026 financial report. The city recorded $858,478.62 in revenue and $881,888.10 in expenditures, with expenses exceeding revenue by $23,409.48. Green noted that extraordinary expenses included $20,656 from the Depreciation Fund for Sewer Plant and Equipment to pay Ideal Pump and Service for a pump.

She also reported that city sales tax revenue decreased by 3.5 percent, or $4,955 less than January 2025, while county sales tax revenue increased by 1.9 percent, or $1,700 more than the same month last year.

Parks Director Meghan Floyd shared end-of-year numbers and announced details regarding the city’s upcoming Easter Egg Hunt.

Police Chief Amy Marion also presented end-of-year numbers for the police department.

Following departmental reports, the council reviewed Ordinance 1000, which amends a previous ordinance related to the City of Nashville’s animal control regulations. After discussion, the council approved a motion made by Alderman Will Turley and seconded by Wright to pass the ordinance as presented.
