South Pike County School Board Renews Contracts, Accepts Retirements and Resignations

The South Pike County School Board met Monday evening and approved contract renewals, personnel changes and policy updates during its regular session.
Board members unanimously approved a motion to extend the contracts of Murfreesboro High School Principal Davey Jones and Murfreesboro Elementary Principal James Riley for the 2026-2027 school year. The motion was made by Alyssa Duggan and seconded by Cory Ballard, passing 6-0.
The board also approved the district’s Personal Electronic Device Policy as presented. That motion was made by Barbie Baxter and seconded by Ballard, and it passed unanimously.
Members voted 6-0 to approve the 2026-2027 school calendar following a motion by Ballard and a second from Duggan.
The district’s Financial Audit Report was presented to the board, with no findings reported.
Following executive session, members unanimously approved a motion to accept the retirements of Lois Hunter-Wesson, Sandra Elliott, Terrie Slatton and Caroline Wise at the end of the current school year. The motion was made by Duggan and seconded by Ballard.
The board also approved the resignation of Ed Jones effective at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. That motion was made by Baxter and seconded by Duggan and passed 6-0.
In additional action, the board accepted the resignation of Brian Caldwell, Zone 3 representative, from the school board. The motion was made by Baxter and seconded by Wes Campbell and passed unanimously.
In conclusion, the board announced its next meeting will be held Tuesday, March 17, at 6 p.m.
